I love this puzzle! I used to have a cat and miss her. We have a dog right now and he is cute! ( a chihuahua). My husband is looking for a companion dog for him. I would much prefer a cat, but because of Blaze (our dog), the hubby says no.

Since you have a small dog already may I suggest as a companion a mini dachshund, the opposite sex from your chihuahua but 'fixed.' We have a mini dachshund (have had two) and love them to pieces. They're loving and funny.

Sorry your husband feels a cat would be a problem. We had a collie and then got cats and they all did fine. My husband just had to teach the dog to accept them. It only took a few moments.

I also like the idea of a mini dachshund, I used to work for a man who bred them when I was a teen-ager and feel in love with them! They are very affectionate dogs!

You humans need to stand back and let your dog and the prospective new family member meet each other and get to know each other. The animals need to pick their humans or their brother/sister. Otherwise you will not have a very happy family.

Good news everybody! We heard of a rescue chihuahua that was available and took him! Our dog and him get along like a pair of brothers! They run all over the house together and where one goes, the other is there! They both love each other tremendously!

ParsonWayne, you shouldn't feel defeated. Spending the last 14 years volunteering at a cat shelter puts me at a definite advantage. I've seen your work and cat pictures are the only time I can keep up!!
