Aussie (my first real pal onC4J), we lost our almost 13y/o Cracker Jack Daniels yesterday. He was the friedliest, smiling, & smart Golden Retriever ever. When he could no longer walk, husband took him to our favorite vet & she told him that was the best present we could give him. The mercy & misery & frustration to send him up with Jesus to climb the "Stairway to Heaven" was heartbreaking, but Jack will see his sister & many cousins. (I hope) Maggie cried all day & when husband went to pick up my Rx's (I could never leave to go out in public) she sat by the window with the driveway & garages hoping he would please bring Jack home again, but, of course, he didn't. She started crying again-so did I. But please say a prayer for my handsome boy that he lives on in the light that I felt so peaceful in the ambulance that day. Our vet was so kind to call me & let me know we did the right thing by letting him go. Most people would want to keep their pets alive by doing anything they could or afford. It will take us all a couple of days of mourning, so I'll have to plan ahead & get a special tree or new garden pod just for him. Thanks again for your prayers & support. With love.

You did what was best for your friend out of love, even though it hurt you. Your kindness and mercy were a blessing for him.

BayGrannie, you would't want a human friend to live in suffering and you don't want your furry or feathered ones to either. It's so hard to let go - I understand, I've been there, too - but you did the right thing. It will take time to heal the pain of loss. My heart goes out to you.

BayGrannie, I can't imagine the pain you feel until I have gone through it but I am sure that when the time comes I would want to put my fur baby out of her life of pain rather than watch her suffer more each day. I watched my father die and I don't want to watch another loved one die. Even a furry loved one.

BayGrannie, know how you feel, but I agree w/aknan there comes a time you have to let them go and you will heal, but you will never forget the good times that you had with them.

Dear BayGrannie, so sad to hear of your loss. I have never had a dog as they are such a big responsibility, but my sister had a big dog called Tilda. I was scared of her at first but made friends with her and my sister moved away and I was not able to visit for six months. But Tilda did not bark at my car, or me, even though it had been six months. She was a beautiful dog. Unfortunately she got really bad arthritis and my sister had to have her put to sleep and I think I cried almost as much as my sister. She now has a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel (Harrison) who is as silly as a wet hen, but very lovable. So I can enjoy my sister's pets and get close to them, so I understand your pain. Hugs and prayers.

Bay Grannie, My heart goes out to you. It's so very hard to lose someone so dear as a cherished pet. Whatever special part of heaven our sweet pets go to Cracker Jack Daniels will be there. You will have such sweet memories to recall about him.

Thanks so much ALL you puzzlers. I know you are right & I know Jack's fun-loving ways will cause a tad of a stir up in Heaven. I so appreciate your messages of love & support. And as Aussie says hugs to everyone from me.

BayGrannie I'm so sorry about your dear Jack. As I read it I cried for him ---- and my dear Teddy, Skippy, and Skippy II.

Lilbc77, Hi. I don't recall seeing you before (although it's entirely possible my brain cell took another vacation).
