Interesting cake. You must put it together at the last minute --- drizzle the sugary, and then top with the fresh fruit. Yum!

Torture sheer torture lol. Looks absolutely delicious.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others? '" Martin Luther King, Jr.

"You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry, don't worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way." Walter Hagen

"As a child my family's menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it." Buddy Hackett

The world lost a very funny man when he passed away. God bless you all and put a smile on your face today. Hugs.

Aussie hope you are better today. I didn't think anyone remembered Buddy Hackett, he was funny. This cake does look yummy. Will write soon. Be safe:)

I don't know, aussie - around here, the most urgent question is "What do you want for dinner? " Our menu as children was the same as Buddy's!

My family's menu consisted of the same two choice as Buddy Hackett's. Walter Hagen's quote makes me think we're vacationing here and our trials are the ants and sand the makes our vacation less than perfect.

God bless you aussie, - and the rest of you too.

Nlb, what a wonderful observation! Much easier to think of our trials as ants and sand; just like ants on a picnic, they're temporary.

He really WAS a funny guy; even just LOOKING at him, you KNEW he was about to crack you up.

I think those of my vintage had the same choices. I can remember when my mother gave us bread and drippings (what was left in the pan after cooking lamb chops! ) when all else failed. Anyone else remember that?? Yes, darambo I remember him and that he was funny without being crude. His facial expressions were hilarious. Hugs.

We only had one choice. Eat.

That was our choice. Eat or go hungry. Times sure have changed. Now I hear parents making a separate dish for each person, Mickey D, Burger King, or Long John Silvers take out meals.

My husband and I were just talking about how we are becoming isolated from eachother by cell phones, ipods--having some sort of device to provide individual choice--never a shared experience. At the same time we are losing our unique character. Everything is store bought and mass produced. We just came back from Idaho and they had all our same neighborhood stores. All over the world people wear the same clothes now-- suits or tees and sneakers and jeans or jogging suits. Traditional dress is only seen in 3rd world countries wear small groups live in the bush, swamps or rain forests. It's sad.

That's where not wear. Don't know how I did that.

I agree, Pixi, it is sad that the whole world dresses alike now. Traditional dress gave you an idea of the person's culture and possible interests.

It also allowed for the creativity of the people who usually made the outfits by hand--or at least singly and not mass produced.

I remember Buddy Hackett from the Ed Sullivan show when I was a kid. I loved him! Also, as a grandma raising 2 grandsons and a granddaughter who is also at my house for at least one meal a day, my menu also consists of take it or leave it- always has! AND, I think it has made my kids and grandkids more adventurous eaters. While their friends won't eat anything but pasta and chicken nuggets, they eat things most adults wouldn't even try! The old ways are the best!

Amen to that--although a friend once served me escargo and I couldn't get myself to eat it.

Mine was also take it or leave it but as a very fussy eater I often left it. The years have not changed me and I am still a very fussy eater

I haven't seen currants since I lived in Oklahoma. They make good jelly but what a pain to prep them.

What do you have to do to them?

I go to the store & buy the black current jelly when I can get it otherwise buy the red current jelly.

It's tedious. You have to pick the stems of each little guy, then I think we ran them through a sieve. They are pretty small but yummy jelly.

I remember mom & I used to make Sandhill plum jelly & it was tedious. We had to go down to that area & pick them, but the jelly was wonderful haven't had any of that since I lived in Ks. Not about to do that these days, I don't even want to cook meals anymore.

When we were in Wales our innkeeper in Conway made the most delicious little things called "Welsh cakes". She gave me the recipe but I'll have to buy the currants online as our stores don't seem to have them.

I'm not big on cake but this one is an exception. My mouth is watering and I already finished breakfast.
I think it only fair that bakers should be able to burn off all their calories while baking so they can enjoy their creations w/o gaining weight. (if only! )
Wishing you a creative day.
