Although many zoos are getting better, most have a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, so many species rely upon zoos to avoid extinction.

Yeah true and some zoos don't pen them up anymore. I can think of one zoo that has animals that roam free - they zoo made landscape seem that the animals are in their natural habitat. My dad was a planner of one zoo that decided to go this route. The Minnesota Zoo. That was 40 years ago. Have seen these animals in the wild. A zoo your protected and the wild there's so much danger.
Just some more interesting facts: according to National Geographic's website, scientists still are unsure why zebras have stripes. Most think the stripes act as a form of camouflage by making it hard to distinguish one individual animal from another. But other theories include that it acts as a sunscreen somehow, and also it may help ward off biting insects because insects don't look for multicolored animals supposedly.
